Hi, everyone! If you're reading this, you probably already know my name is Emilie Alexis and you're here for either 2 reasons: 1) you love me and want to support me, or 2) you're thinking about booking/have already booked and would like to know more about me. Either way, I'm glad you're here and I'd love to talk about my two favorite topics with you (me and photography haha).
I'm just kidding about that last part but I love talking about my life and people have told me I'm a good talker so might as well put it to good use.
Photography wasn't even a thought in my mind until I was a Jr in high school. I attended Victory Baptist School in Londonderry, NH and graduated from there in 2020. I was the new kid Jr year and was placed in the small class group of Jr's and Sr's (there were literally 6 of us). The way the yearbook worked was the Sr's were in charge of designing and putting it together and the Jr's didn't have to worry about until the next year. But, of course, the lazy Sr class (haha) decided they didn't want to be responsible for taking pictures so they slapped the Canon camera in my hand and said "Good luck!"
I had no idea what I was doing and left the lens cap on so often, it was quoted in the yearbook that year. I didn't know what an f stop was, didn't know what ISO was, didn't know white balance, probably shot in JPEG the whole time. But you know what, it opened up this world for me. During Sr year, COVID happened, and I was blessed to be getting $600 stimulus checks (woohoo!) after I was laid off from my retail job (boo). My first check came in and I bought a Canon t1i with the kit lens off Amazon. And then! Nothing. I didn't do anything with it for about 2 years. I did shoot a wedding for a couple in our church in 2020 but nothing else for 2 years (the photos were not even good so thank goodness they didn't pay me).
After 2 years, my dad put me in charge of photos at our church so I did that for a while. Sometimes we'd have a special day like Mother's Day where I'd photograph families and our church printed them for everyone. I ended up selling that camera for $130 on Marketplace last year.
In 2024, I decided I wanted a better camera. I got in touch with a college friend (Hi, Abi! everyone go follow abi.d.photo on Instagram!) and she recommended the Canon t7 as the perfect beginner photographer. Ah yes, the camera EVERY beginner photographer has haha. But I got it, I brought it on my honeymoon, and I loved it! (We went to California, wish we went to Hawaii but it's ok.)
I then did a little session in Acadia National Park for a friend of my cousin in October of 2023. Which, this is exciting, I'm shooting her wedding in October of THIS year! I'm stoked for that.
After this I had a break, didn't pick the camera up again until March of 2025. My sister-in-law, Jazzmine, was going to be in town for Spring break (she was teaching) and her and my brother needed engagement photos for the invitations and save the dates. I was MORE than happy to help. I'm not going to post any of the photos because I plan to make a separate blog post on the year anniversary of that photoshoot.
And then I started my business. I'll go into more detail in the post I mentioned above. But that shoot made me stop and think "I kinda ate with these." I talked about it with my husband and he enthusiastically stood behind me 100%. He was very funny about it. He said "Do it! And then you can start contributing to the household." For context, I'm a stay-at-home mom. I looked at him like he was crazy! Every penny is going straight back into the business. I got stuff to buy! He has still been so supportive and been my biggest cheerleader.
And here we are! It's now March of 2026. I have since upgraded my camera to my Canon R10, upgraded my kit lens and I know own 3 lenses (24-70mm, 50mm, and 75-300mm), and I've purchased my own website domain. I've been having so much fun meeting new people, connecting with other photographers, editing, posting, making my silly little TikTok's. It's been a blast! I'm excited to add blogging to my list of things to do haha. I've always like writing so this will be very fun for me. If you read this far, I appreciate you and I love you and I hope we get to work together very soon :)
xoxo
